Visa Brings the Spirit of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ to Singapore

Singapore - Visa, an official FIFA (Federation Internatonale de Football Association) partner, has given 35 lucky winners a trip for two to the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil, while also bringing the excitement of the event to those at home in Singapore.

The 35 winners were picked from several contests including Visa’s “Spend with Visa Changi Airport 2014 FIFA World Cup BrazilTM” promotion and the “2014 FIFA World Cup BrazilTM Visa payWave” contest where people made purchases on their Visa payWave cards for a chance to win a trip for two to the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil.

Singaporeans are embracing the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ with plans to watch the matches both here in Singapore and in Brazil. According to Singapore-based online accommodations provider Agoda.com, the company has seen an increase in inquiries into Brazil from January to May 2013 vs same period of 2014.

“We are seeing a healthy increase of web visitors into Brazil from our global base of customers. The enthusiasm is even more apparent amongst Singaporeans. This year we have seen an 82% increase in visits, showing that Brazil is definitely on their travel radar this World Cup season,” says Timothy Hughes, VP for Marketing at Agoda.com.

Visa is also bringing the excitement and spirit of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ to Singapore. In collaboration with McDonald’s, Singapore customers will receive Visa 2014 FIFA World Cup™ merchandise when they spend a minimum of $10 through the McDelivery website or mobile application until 16 July. Visa is also proud to be participating in the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ charity drive organized by the Business Times and Coca-Cola. Under the program, Singapore CEOs adopt a team playing in the 2014 FIFA World Cup™. Thirty two Singapore-based CEOs will be assigned to each of the 32 teams and from June 12 – July 13, the participating CEOs will donate $2,000 to one of two local charities each time their team loses. The proceeds of the charity drive will be disbursed equally between The Business Times Budding Artists Fund and Singapore Sports Council's SportCares Fund.
